A wife is in jail for stabbing her husband, while the man also faces charges in the case.
Newport police say the call came in Wednesday night as a man was robbed and stabbed while walking along Old Fashioned Way in Newport.
But after conflicting statements, as well as blood found inside and outside the couple's apartment, police discovered the stabbing actually happened at Compass Landing during a domestic assault between the two.
Tiffany Townsend has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, while Jeffrey Townsend Jr. has pending charges of assault on a female and filing a false police report.
Police say both suspects assaulted each other while the couple's small children were there. The husband, who is 22 years old, was stabbed with a kitchen knife in the lower torso and is now at Vidant Medical Center with what police call non life-threatening injuries.
The 25-year-old wife is in jail under no bond, while police say they recovered two stainless steel kitchen knives used in the assault.
