A registered sex offender accused of attempting to kidnap a middle school girl will face a judge Monday.
James Piver, 53, of Morehead City is charged with attempted second degree kidnapping.
Morehead City Police tells WITN a girl was on her way to school when she spoke with an older man who was standing at the Budget Inn.
The girl was told the man had something for her, but she had to keep it secret. He said he would leave it in the nearby bushes.
The girl found the letter, read it while on the bus, then reported it to officials when she got to school.
Piver was arrested on Thursday and is already on probation for conviction of taking indecent liberties with a six-year-old.

The child was walking to a school bus stop last Friday when police said she spoke to an older man she said was always standing at the Budget Inn every morning. The girl was told the man had something for her, but she couldn't tell anyone about it. He said he would leave it in nearby bushes.
The girl found a letter, and read it while on the bus. Once at school she reported the letter to officials.
Piver was on probation for taking indecent liberties with a six year old and got out of prison in February.
