Morehead City authorities have released the name of a woman killed in a weekend fire at her home.
Dead is 45-year-old Luetta Gaskill. The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the home on North 18th Street.
A preliminary cause is a possible accident that originated from the kitchen. When crews first arrived they saw flames from the rear of the home and the attic.
A home next to the house also had minor damage due to vinyl siding melting.
Fire Officials are investigating a fatal fire that occurred at a Morehead City home Sunday morning.
Fire officials say they responded to a call of a fire at a home on North 18th Street around 3:30 a.m.
They tell us the fire was in the back of the home near the kitchen and back porch area. They say when crews went inside they found a female resident. They pulled her from the home and attempted to revive her, but she did not survive.
Officials say the female was the only occupant of the home. Her name has not been released and the cause of the fire is still being investigated by the SBI, Morehead City Fire Department, and Morehead City Police.
