Navy Helicopter Rescues Unconscious Diver

A 43-year-old diver was rescued about 23 miles south of Morehead City by a Navy helicopter Sunday afternoon after officials say he was unconscious and unresponsive.

Around 9:24 a.m. the Sea Quest II contacted officials saying that a diver needed immediate medical attention.

A navy helicopter from the USS De Wart, pictured above, then responded and airlifted the man to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.

No more information was given about the divers current condition.

We were fishing in the area and understood one of the latest radio conversations to indicate the diver did not survive.

My thought and prayers go out to this man and his family. Hope he can recover. I applaud the Navy and all of the officials that respond to any diver or boater in need of help.
