Morehead City Man Killed In Georgia Accident

A Morehead City man and his friend from Wake Forest were killed in Georgia while on their way to a fishing tournament in Mississippi.

In all three people were killed in two accidents Monday morning on I-20, west of Augusta. Robert Lawson of Morehead City and Paul Wood, Jr. were killed when the boat they were towing crushed their truck after it struck a tractor trailer.

Our sister station, WRDW in Augusta says the first accident happened when authorities say a driver struck a deer, leading to a traffic back-up and the second crash a mile down the interstate. An eight mile stretch of the interstate was shut down because of hazardous chemicals which leaked from the tractor trailer.

This horrible accident and loss just reminds us all how quickly lives are changed forever and some are taken from us too soon. Prayers for the family and friends of all involved. I didn't know those involved but a friend of mine did and he is still trying to understand how this could have happened.

My husband likes to fish. He often travels with friends to fish. This story saddens me so much. Condolences to these fishermen's friends and families. So sad...
