The Morehead City Council announced David Whitlow of Alexandria, Virginia will be the next city manager. Whitlow has 35 years in local government experience, according to a press release.
Morehead City Mayor Jerry Jones said, "Although it was a difficult selection process due to the exceptionally well-qualified candidates, we as a Council, are all pleased with our final selection and are proud to welcome Dave and his family to Morehead City."
Whitlow said, "I am thrilled to have been selected by the Morehead City Council as the next City Manager. Morehead City brings so many things together from my professional career of the past 37 years-its proximity to a Marine base, its coastal environment, and even the rail line down the median of the major thoroughfare, that it is uncanny. It is very apparent that the local government has been astute in its investments in infrastructure and quality of life improvements and now seems poised to move to the next level as the economy begins to improve. I look forward to working with the Council, the staff and the citizens, as we collectively work to make Morehead City the best that it can be."
The press release says Whitlow will be paid $95,000 annually. He replaces Randy Martin, who retired in March 1 after sixteen years working for Morehead City.
