Man Leads Officers On High Speed Chase

A man leads officers on a high speed chase after they say he stole a truck, beer and cigarettes from a convenience store.

According to deputies 28-year-old Michael Roberts of New Bern is now behind bars, but it did take some effort for officers to arrest him.

Deputies say early Saturday morning Roberts stole a truck in Craven County.

A deputy then spotted the stolen truck in the parking lot of Zingo's convenience store on Highway 101 in Carteret County.

Deputies say Roberts had just broken into the store and was leaving carrying beer and cigarettes.

Roberts then got into the truck and attempted to flee towards Craven County. The deputy pursued Roberts. Other deputies were able to put down stop sticks and Roberts was stopped and arrested.

Roberts was charged with Probation Violation, Breaking and Entering, Larceny of Motor Vehicle and Damage to Property by Craven Deputies and Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony Larceny, Damage to Real Property, Possession of Stolen Property, Speeding, Driving Left of Center, Felony Flee to Elude Arrest and Reckless Driving to Endanger by Carteret County Deputies.

Roberts was placed in jail on an $18,000 dollar secured bond. His first appearance in court is set for Monday.

That story sounds like a perfect "COPS" segment. Was he wearing a wife-beater Earnhardt shirt with holes in it?
