A registered sex offender is headed back to prison after admitting he raped a 12 year old girl who he had lured from her home.
Timothy Newman of Newport was sentenced to serve between 31 and 48 years in prison after his guilty plea in Carteret County this morning.
The district attorney says the 39-year-old Newman targeted the girl through text messages, even though her father confronted him and told him to stop.
The girl was eventually lured from her home and taken to Broward County, Florida where the two were found after an Amber Alert was issued.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree statutory rape. D.A. Scott Thomas says if Newman gets out of prison he will be on the sex registry for the rest of his life as well as GPS monitoring.
Newman was convicted in Stokes County in 2004 for sex offenses involving a 13 year old.
