Women Say Landlord Asked Them For Nude Pictures; Camera Found Hidden In Bathroom

More Video...

A woman and her daughter say their landlord had asked them to take naked pictures of themselves and they refused. It turns out that deputies say Clifford Michael took them anyway, with a hidden camera.

The 65-year-old Michael made his first court appearance Thursday morning in a Carteret County courtroom after being charged with felony secret peeping using a video device.

The mother and daughter rented the upstairs of the man's home on Straits Road in Gloucester, along with the younger woman's 9 & 11 year old daughters.

The victims became suspicious when they noticed a new item that was in their bathroom, facing their toilet and shower. After checking it out, deputies say the women found a motion activated hidden camera inside.

Detectives said they discovered compromising images of the women stored on the camera's memory card.

The women say they immediately moved out of the home.

During a first appearance Michael asked for a court-appointed attorney. But the judge denied that request, saying if he could afford to buy a $400 camera to record the women then he could afford to hire his own lawyer.

Michael remains free on a $10,000 bond.
