A kayaker had to be rescued Sunday afternoon after he fell out of his kayak because of rough conditions and was left clinging to a pylon for about an hour and a half.
According to Atlantic Beach Fire Chief Adam Snyder a group of 15 kayakers were participating in a seven-day tour to kayak for cancer that went from Raleigh to Carteret County.
Sunday was the last day, but because of gusty winds and rough surf, one kayaker started to take on water. He eventually fell out of his kayak and got separated from the others.
Rescuers were notified around 4 p.m. that the man was missing. They eventually found the man, who is in his mid 50's, clinging to a pylon.
He's doing fine, but did have mild hypothermia.
Officials say the water temperature was around 62 degrees.
