What appears to be an oil rig has shown up off the Crystal Coast.
The rig was first sighted Saturday off Emerald Isle, and since then town hall and a nearby fishing pier have been flooded with questions about what it is.
The U.S. Coast Guard says it's actually a liftboat that is en route to the Gulf of Mexico.
The L/B Inez H. Eymard stopped because of foul weather. The Coast Guard says it can't move in seas greater than four feet, so it is expected to be stuck here until Thursday.
The Coast Guard says the liftboat was working on some wind farms off the Virginia coast and is now headed to Key West.
Liftboats are mainly used to perform maintenance on oil and gas well platforms.
