Third graders at W.J. Gurganus Elementary School in Havelock deserve a big round of applause.
Ashley Alicea's class won a national writing contest.
The class worked together to write a story about a magical spelling book application.
In their story a few magic words would turn classmates into frogs, make math work disappear, and turn a sunny sky into a wet storm.
They could barely hold in the excitement when they found out they won the "Mrs. P'" Be-A-Famous Writer Contest.
The school will receive a new e-book program, $7,000, and their book will be published.
