Fun & Safety A Priority As Thousands Pack The Beaches

Lifeguards and beach goers were on High alert at the beaches on the Fourth of July following three drownings since last week blamed on rip currents.

Atlantic Beach was packed with people celebrating the holiday Monday. From swimming to building sand castles and flying kites- everyone we talked with was having a great time. Some parents were worried about rip currents though, especially after authorities say three men were caught in them and drowned last week.

Atlantic Beach life guards said there were more lifeguards on duty than normal because of the holiday crowds. Many, like Eddie Boyani from Colorado, say they appreciate that because it allows them to focus on relaxing and having a good time. "The water is great, clean, sand is beautiful, the weather is nice and it's just great, great being on the beach - taking a week off."

Lifeguards say rip currents continue to be strong along the coast.
