Four Arrested In String Of Car B&Es At Beach

Four young men from Kinston are accused of breaking into multiple vehicles in Emerald Isle.

Police in the beach town say on Monday they conducted a traffic stop and found the driver, William Mitchell of Kinston, had been drinking. After a search of his vehicle they found a large number of electronic devices inside.

Emerald Isle, Indian Beach and Pine Knoll Shores police then raided a home on Santa Maria Drive where they recovered more stolen property. That 's where they arrested four people, including a juvenile.

Jonathan Burks, 20, of Kinston was charged with 9 counts of felony breaking or entering and 9 counts each of larceny and possession of stolen goods. Burks was also charged with the breaking and entering of a residence. He's in jail on a $20,000 secured bond.

Curtis Swinson, 18, of Kinston, was charged with 8 counts of felony breaking or entering and 8 counts each of larceny and possession of stolen goods. Swinson was also served with outstanding papers from Lenoir County involving the theft of copper. He's being held on a $20,000 bond.

Gavin Scott Hill, 16, of Kinston, was charged with 8 counts of felony breaking or entering and 8 counts each of larceny and possession of stolen goods. Hill is being held in the Carteret County jail on a $10,000 bond.

Police are also seeking a juvenile petition for 8 counts of felony breaking or entering and 8 counts each of larceny and possession of stolen goods on an un-named juvenile from La Grange. Police say they're also in the process of getting warrants on another suspect from the Lenoir County area and more charges are pending against those already arrested.

Victims are still in the process of claiming their property. Anyone with any information or who may be victims wishing to identify property can contact Lt. Paul Cheshire at 252-354-2021.

WOW another idiot, to ask a parent where they went wrong is obsurd. It doesnt matter how well you raise your children, once they become a legal adult, maybe not a mature adult they have the right o make their own decisions!

This story upsets me because I have taught and/ or worked with all 3 named individuals. I have seen the good in them, but hate the choices they have made. It just saddens me.

Who wants to bet that there bonds are lower then any drug offender? Come on NC judicial system, whats the deal with violent offenders getting lower bonds then drug dealers who are at least not being violent and are trying to make money that they then turn around an spend in the great US of A. Any one can break into a car and steal stuff, least it takes a little smarts to hustle.

Do you not understand the concept of a comment section on a news website. When these morons decided to break the law and get arrested, that became public imformation which in turn made it everybodies business. You shouldn't be so offended at public scrutiny of idiots like these.

Anonymous, clearly you are gambling on a persons bond and that is really beside the point. Not to mention people are fasley accused and arrested on a daily basis! You dont have the facts, only media information.

Looks like Jonathan Burks has violated his probation. Curtis Swinson is no stranger to the judicial system. Sounds like a gang related thing...maybe?
