A local man who was once the number one Major League Baseball draft pick is now facing serious federal drug charges.
Forty-year-old Brien Taylor of Carteret County was ordered held in custody during a detention hearing in Federal Court Tuesday, according to ESPN. Undercover narcotics agents said they purchased a large quantity of crack cocaine from Taylor over several months earlier this year.
Taylor played for East Carteret High School and was signed by the New York Yankees after the 1991 Major League Baseball draft. Taylor never played for the team because of an arm injury.
