Former Cherry Point Marine Convicted On Sex Crimes

A former Cherry Point Marine has been found guilty of rape, sex offense and kidnapping.

Authorities say 27-year-old Todd Martin was convicted in Carteret County Superior Court and sentenced to 45 to 50 years in prison and has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Martin was arrested by Newport police two years ago. Authorities say he knew the victim.

For the individuals who think that Todd recieved too much time, you do not know what happened and he deserves a lot more time than he got! This was a horrifying case and any of you would have been in that courtroom at either trial (yes there were two of them) you would be rethinking the situation. He deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life. As far as being rehabilitated, he will never be rehabilitated and he doesn't need to because he will more than likely die in prison.

This was so much more than just a rape case.

I find this astounding.... I personally was raped in beaufort county a year ago... My rapist never spent a second behind bars as he gets to run free and pay no consiquences for his crime but this guy gets 40/50 years in prison that is a little too much, then above all you have to bring up the fact that he was a Marine stationed at cherry point that is like telling the world that all marines are bad when they aren't. I have a son that is a marine stationed at Cherry Point and he is the nicest gentleman any woman could ever meet. My fiance was a Marine stationed at Cherry Point and well needless to say he is the best man I have ever met. loveing, careing, compassionate, understanding etc.the list goes on. If you would have treated this idiot as a normal person and kept Cherry Point out of the headlines there would of been less negativity here. He is not and has never been a Marine in my opinion!!!!!

Ok, for those of you that want more info... look up his name. As for the rest of you, they have spared you the horrifying details. Yes he has children that are too young to ever know the monster that he is. The crimes he has commited are beyond the imagination. To Hope, A "sweet husband"... were married to him? I don't believe so. I feel for his 'family' but I am happy that his "victim" now has closure and can sleep at night without worry of him EVER crossing her path.

What's the difference between 45/50 years and life?

I am sympathetic to the person raped. I've never been raped but I was sexually abused as a kid and although it is a terrible situation I think that 45-50 years is way to much. Of course, I don't know the specifics of this situation but the reality is that being in jail that long will never rehabilitate this person and it will cost us way to much in tax payer dollars. I really think that the owners of the private prisons (yes that's right there are for profit prisons in the states, many of them) are part of encouraging these politicians to be "hard on crime" so they can get elected and the prisons can make BIG money. We've lost our minds. We're not making this a safer country and we are spending more money in our failures.

This is not a typical husband is a marine..and this is not typical of him or any other marine ive met. It is wrong to assume anything like that and people who say such things are ignorant. Why dont you get some respect & stop talking down about the people who fight for YOUR freedom.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jan 8, 2011 at 08:44 AM Typical jarhead. Don't have the gonads to post your name when making a comment like this? This is NOT typical of a jarhead. I happen to be a Marine, and have been since 1987. If you want to make comments like this, you should at least educate yourself as to what a "typical Marine" really is. You should also grow a pair.

Do not judge lest ye be judged. Matthew 7 : 1 You don't know this man, you don't know his family, or history. He was very happily married at one time just like you, and a sweet husband, and a Marine with 3 tours of Iraq in service to his country. He is a father with young children who love him very much. He is a son & a brother & grandson ( of which his parents & family are heartbroken & reeling over this ) so do me a favor, until you have walked this road ( keep your judgements to yourself ) I agree with you girls, you say how dare they say typical jarhead...well how dare all of you say anything that you know nothing about ! Shame on should be praying for everyone affected by this , not judging them !

I was in Carteret County Jail with Todd. He turned down 144 months or 12 years. He was a freaking moron! He deserved what he got. He was talking about when he was a Marine how he used to rob people the day before his ship left so he wouldn't get caught. Scumbag! I did see him get his butt whipped in there though. That was cool!
