This will be the first full summer the Doubletree Hotel at Atlantic Beach will be open and it's expected to help bring in the tourists.
The former Sheraton Hotel was severely damaged by Hurricane Irene and reopened as a Doubletree Hotel last June after sitting empty for two years and following a $5-million renovation.
Local businesses are hopeful the refurbished hotel will attract more tourists this year.
The hotel's general manager, Tom Bowen, says the numbers are looking great this year. He says, "March was a record month, April was a record month for us, May we're on pace to set another record. June will probably be the best month we've ever had with the hotel's history and going into the traditionally strong months of July and August we look forward to a fantastic year for us. We couldn't be happier."
In addition to the hotel, the town of Atlantic Beach is doing what it can to attract families.
They built a new splash park that opened recently, bringing in some pretty happy kids.
