A bakery in downtown Morehead City is closed after a morning fire today.
Fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. at Alex & Brett Custom Bakery. One of the owners, Brett Jellerson, got to work about a half hour early and was working on the computer when he notice black smoke coming from the air conditioning vent.
Jellerson call 911 and firefighters quickly put the fire out. He says it could have been much worse had he not come in early today.
The Carteret County Health Department has to inspect the bakery before it can reopen. Jellerson is hoping they can reopen tomorrow.
