Changes are on the way for people who use ferries to get to Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout.
By the spring of 2014 visitors will no longer use privately run ferry services and instead, the National Park Service will run ferries from two locations. One of those locations will be on Harkers Island where their Cape Lookout National Seashore office is and the other will be run out of Beaufort at the town hall on Front Street.
There are currently seven permitted ferry providers on Harkers Island, Beaufort, and in Morehead City.
The National Park Service says the bid for the ferry service they'll use will go out nationally.
