Emerald Isle began its Memorial Day early by unveiling a new veterans memorial.
A dedication ceremony was held at the public boating access area in Emerald Isle in Carteret County Friday for the new memorial.
For a year organizers have been working to raise the $10,000 it took for the project. Memorial chairman Bernie Whalley says it was was needed and that we must thank and never forget those who have served and sacrificed for our country. "There's a lot of husband and wives and sons and daughters and aunts and uncles that have given so much to this country, they've given us something that people yet unborn will one day appreciate."
The new memorial honors veterans of all branches of our armed forces.
