As WITN meteorologists track a storm system, local business owners and tourists are hoping it stays far away from their Fourth of July plans.
On Monday, many folks took advantage of the sun and sand in Emerald Isle, but miles away a potential tropical storm is churning off our coast.
Local business owners say they rely on the holiday as a busy and profitable weekend. Jackie's American Grill owner Ryan Ayre says tourists may stick around through a rainy and stormy weekend, but that in-state visitors will be less likely to come out.
"I really hope it doesn't hit us," says Ayre. "For the tourists, for the locals, for local businesses. It's important to everyone that we have a good season. Coming off a bad season last year we really need some good numbers."
Emerald Isle's Town Manager says the fireworks could be pushed back to July 5, depending on the weather.
