Pregnant Woman And Man Killed In Carteret County Crash

Officials say a pregnant woman and a man are dead after their car ran off the road in Carteret County and slammed into a tree about 7:00 a.m. Sunday.

The Highway Patrol says the driver was 30-year-old Rachel Lewis and the passenger was 34-year-old Davin Fulford.

Troopers say Lewis was speeding on Merrimon Road about 10 miles north of Beaufort, when her Toyota Corolla ran off the road, hit a tree, and flipped over.

Troopers say neither was wearing a seat belt. Highway Patrol says Lewis died at the scene and Fulford was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he died.

Troopers say Lewis' mother told them her daughter was several months pregnant.

They also confirm that several years ago, Fulford was driving a vehicle that crashed in Carteret County. They tell WITN Fulford's baby son was killed in the crash and Fulford was convicted of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

No one needs to point fingers at a time like this...it is a tradegy for both families. I do agree no ones past should be exploited when so many people's hearts are breaking.

What does Davins past have to do with this accident when he wasn't driving the car. This was her fault not Davins.............

Thank you Claudia for those very thoughtful words. My family appreciates them very much and I hope Davin's family does too. She had two children that my family has to think about now and we just don't want anyone pointing fingers at either one because it won't change the situation. And to Christy I'm not sure if she's the same girl you grew up with but her mom's name is Connie.

Prayers and condolences go out to both families from my family. This is very heart breaking. I do not know either family. I too agree with the other posters that the past history has nothing to do with this story.

It is my prayer that no one throw any stones at the driver because it will not change anything. Davin's family do not need to be reminded of Ethan's death and it had nothing to do with this accident. Both families are in pain and can do without outsiders who don't know either one of these people casting stones. Only God has the right to judge us and I ask every Christian to take time to pray for each family and let them see that there are Christians ready to show what God's Love can help them through. My heart goes out to both families just as my prayers go out for God's children to come together and show the true love He offers everyone. Please don't add any more pain to these families, we would not like it if it were us walking this painfull path.
