Coast Guard Suspends Search For Boater In Trouble

The U.S. Coast Guard says it has suspended its search for a missing boater off Cape Lookout.

Tuesday night around 10:30 they got a distress call from the boater who said he was abandoning his 22-foot Bayliner near the rock jetty at Cape Lookout.

The Coast Guard said they started searching for the man and spent nine hours, unable to find him. They searched some 90 square nautical miles.

Officials say the missing man was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white shirt.

Crews were combing the area between Cape Lookout and Onslow Bay area.

The Coast Guard says Morehead City police have been searching area boat ramps to see if any left behind boat trailers might belong to the missing boater.

The Coast Guard says they've been searching through the night and into Wednesday for a boater who called for help.

Coast Guardsmen say around 10:30 p.m. they got a distress call from a boater who said he was abandoning his 22-foot Bayliner near the rock jetty at Cape Lookout.

The Coast Guard said they started searching for the man overnight and have not been able to find him. The search continues Wednesday with the Coast Guard Cutter Block Island and a Jayhawk Helicopter.

Officials say the missing man was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white shirt.

Crews are combing the area between Cape Lookout and Onslow Bay area.
