The Coast Guard station at Emerald Isle got a new boat and it's a first of its kind in North Carolina.
The boat, known as 'response boat medium' is a 45-foot utility boat to replace the 41-foot boat. It will allow the station to have a quicker response time and go into rougher seas to make rescues.
Executive Petty Officer Colin Smith says, "Gives us the ability to remain on scene longer, also has a slew of crew comforts, air conditioning, shock mitigating seats so that way if we do have to get somewhere in a hurry we're not beating up the crew."
The coast guard began distributing these boats in 2008, and deliver about 30 each year.
