Carteret County Residents To Vote On Mixed Drink Referendum

To drink or not to drink? Voters in the east will decide if cocktails can be sold at all area hotels, restaurants, private clubs, theatres and convention centers.

Voters in Carteret County will find a mixed drink referendum on Tuesday's ballot. Right now the sale of mixed beverages is only approved in some tourist towns in the county including Morehead City, Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle.

ABC Board Chairman Terry Frank says they currently have to turn down restaurant owners who want a permit to sell mixed beverages.

"Depending on where you live it's essentially kind of a dry county," says Frank.

If the referendum is approved Tuesday, mixed drinks can be sold throughout Carteret County.
