Sledding on the beach is certainly an odd combination. It's also something that brings an adrenaline rush to son Chris and his brother T.J. Samojedny.
Chris says, "It's dare devilish sometimes."
On Thursday night, the sand dune turned snow hill was the main attraction on Atlantic Beach.
Tom says, "For a week ahead of time they were saying, 'Okay, we gotta get the sleds out. It's gonna snow.'"
Tom says the family has lived in Carteret County for four years. Originally they're from New Jersey.
Typically, Tom takes the family up North to get the boys their snow fix.
Tom said, "Last year at Christmas break we decided to visit friends up in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, and we took the sleds."
Of course, they're a bit out of practice.
Chris said, "It's also very hard to get up them once it's snowed a lot, because it's slippery. There's more ice than snow."
Tom told us the last time there was enough snow for his boys to get a good sled ride in here in Eastern Carolina was back in 2010.
