A woman is headed to prison after she stole nearly $400,000 from the elderly man she was paid to care for.
Susan Willis, 55, was arrested in September after Craven County authorities say she embezzled money from the 84-year-old man for over a span of five years.
According to the New Bern Sun Journal, a judge sentenced Willis to 10 to 13 years in prison.
Authorities say a Carteret County woman has been embezzling from the 84-year-old man she was supposed to be caring for.
54-year-old Susan Willis was arrested Monday after Craven County authorities say she bilked the man out of nearly $400,000 over a 5-year period.
Deputies say the man is disabled and Willis was hired to assist him with medical and financial matters. They say she had the ability to write checks from the man's account and a niece discovered the missing money on September 2nd.
Willis is under a $400,000 bond and remains in the Craven County jail.
Last week a Swansboro couple was charged with stealing more than $152,000 from the woman's elderly father.
