Cape Lookout Lighthouse Ready For Visitors Again

One of the treasures of the North Carolina coast will soon be open again and WITN got a chance to check it all out Thursday.

The 153-year-old Cape Lookout Lighthouse has been through quite a bit, including Hurricane Irene last August, but the beacon is as strong as ever and awaiting visitors.

Kelsie Smith climbed the 207 steps to the top Thursday and got a great view once she got to the top.

The lighthouse will open for tours on May 16th and will be open four days a week this year instead of three through September 22nd.

Tours are available from 10:00 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. It is recommended that you make reservations.
