Cape Lookout Cutting Services Because Of Sequestration

Cape Lookout National Seashore says it will have to cut park operations and leave positions vacant because of sequestration cuts.

Cape Lookout says it has to reduce its budget by 5%, meaning it will have to cut $123,417 between now and September 30th.

Because of the cuts, the Harkers Island Visitors Center will be closed on weekends until further notice, while ranger-led interpretive programs offered at the Cape Lookout Lighthouse will be discontinued.

The park says it will also have to leave unfilled one full-time and two seasonal positions this year.
