"In the news today, Dr. Ruth, having nothing to do, walked in to a store and shoplifted." I would like know what this lady did steal.

At a Lions Club yard sale, a lady?, walked off with an armful of small items. She didn't pay, and since the proceeds go to the eye exams and glasses, etc., this lady actually stole from needy children and senior citizens. Not too much surprises me anymore.

These comments are not funny. It would appear this woman needs help. Probably some counciling wouldn't hurt. The elderly don't usually steal for a thrill. For all we know, she has some form of dementia. Please wait to find out who she is and why she did this before you down grade her. Have some compassion.

If you jokers ran your own small business, you wouldn't be making jokes about someone stealing. I can guarantee this isn't the first thing lifted from this business. I own a large store and it's impossible to keep an eye on everything. I don't have the resources of Walmart to replace stolen stuff or hire security. What you really need to understand is that when people steal from a business, especially a small business, it's EVERYONE of us that pays for it. Businesses must raise prices to cover theft and all the other honest customers pay for her getaway. So laugh if you must, but I don't blame this business owner for trying to put an end to stealing. Remember, it's not just a $ 2 item, it's what they all add up to. Insurance $ 8000/yr, electricity $ 1100/mth, phone $ 400/mth, water/sewer $ 175/mth, mortgage $ 2100/mth. You think it's easy running a small business.... TRY IT !

While I understand your frustration, an isolated shoplifting incident is hardly "Top Story" material as this one was earlier today. Since we are not being told WHAT she stole, and open gunfire rings out in streets throughout Eastern NC on a daily basis, the police in Newport need to stop embarrassing themselves by requesting the media help solve this crime.

You're correct, since we're not being told what she stole.... instead of assuming it's a Bic lighter or something, why don't you assume it's a $ 1500 gold coin or something of real value. I wouldn't think a simple shoplifting case would make the news UNLESS it's something of substance.

This just in: A child seen littering candy wrappers is being sought by police. SWAT teams have been conducting "no-knock" entries on a door-to-door basis in several neighborhoods since late last night in a sustained effort to locate the desperado. Mayberry Sheriff Barney Fife, responding to criticism from some citizens about the aggressive use of police resources, stated "We must have a zero-tolerance policy against defiling our great country, or the terrorists will win." We will be airing live video captured at the scene from Chopper 99 once Homeland Security censors release it for broadcast.
