Work continues to repair damage across the east from Hurricane Irene and that includes repairs to the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle.
As the National Hurricane Center looks ahead to the upcoming hurricane season, expecting it to be about average, workers are feverishly rebuilding the 238 feet of the Bogue Inlet Pier lost last hurricane season. The pier is scheduled to re-open March 17th.
Pier owner Mike Stanley says, "The weather has been absolutely wonderful all winter of course, and we've been really really lucky to be able to move quickly with what we have to do." As far as the upcoming hurricane season, he says, "We think of every hurricane season but we try to put it to the back of our minds."
National Weather Service meteorologists in Newport say it's still early to make projections for this year, but says we are transitioning out of La Nina conditions, which means we should have fewer hurricanes.
