Sharks may be scary to some people, but a local aquarium is looking to shed light on the truth about the creatures through Shark Week.
Shark Week began in the east on Sunday. It's where Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium provides fun and facts about sharks, the threats they face, and their important role in the ocean ecosystem.
The aquarium incorporates family-friendly programs, activities, crafts and displays to engage learning about the big fish.
Activities that are free with admission include information on solutions regarding ways to help sharks. Other scheduled activities include a shark jeopardy game and shark and stingray feedings.
Sink your teeth into knowledge about a few of the world's 400 known shark species from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily through Saturday at Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium.
