Beating The Heat At The Beach

Sand, surf, and a sea breeze were the trick for some to cool off Friday.

Emerald Isle was quite crowed with people looking to cool off and others starting the 4th of July holiday early.

Umbrellas lined the western regional access beach in Emerald Isle, bringing much needed shade to the open beach. Beach goers we spoke with tell us the sea breeze is helping keep the temperatures a little more tolerable.

Lifeguards tell us having the heatwave fall on a the weekend before the 4th of July is drawing a lot more people to the beach.

Lifeguard Lindsay Haynes says while they're keeping an eye on people in the water they're also looking out for heat stroke on land. "We definitely keep an eye out for that, you know the different signs like fatigue and just getting so hot that you know. We recommend you guys bring plenty of water, stay hydrated throughout the day and if you can bring an umbrella and stay in the shade."

The beaches are a bit cooler with highs in the lower 90s but higher humidity levels will make it feel hotter.
