Local beaches are starting to get crowds, especially for the long Easter weekend. A reminder to drivers- some parking areas that used to be free are now charging a fee.
Many new signs line front street, in Beaufort, clearly marking the 3 hour and 5 hour parking areas. They're not the only areas with parking changes. Last weekend Emerald Isle started enforcing their $10 all-day parking fees for their eastern and western ocean regional accesses. These fees will be enforced on weekends and holidays through September 30th. Even with the fees, many visitors are still willing to pay for closer beach access.
"We came here yesterday and I didn't know for the weekends that you had to pay so we just came down here, and I didn't feel like looking for another place to go so we just paid," said Emerald Isle Tourist Katie Richardson.
Down the road at Atlantic Beach parking is still free but they are looking at charging for parking from May through September.
