Autopsy Says Missing Vanceboro Man Shot In Head

An autopsy says a missing Vanceboro man whose body was pulled from a shallow grave last week in Onslow County had been shot in the head.

Bobby Manning's remains were found Friday morning off White Oak River Road outside of Maysville. The Pitt County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled his death a homicide.

John Huff of Beaufort is charged with the man's murder and attempted financial card fraud.

Warrants says Huff was arrested Thursday on the financial card fraud charge and he's accused of withdrawing money on October 20th from the victim's account.

Huff appeared before a judge on Monday in Craven County and his next court date is December 23rd.

A man who accused of killing a Vanceboro man and putting his body in a shallow grave in Onslow County made his first court appearance in Craven County this morning.

John Huff of Beaufort is charged with murder and attempted financial card fraud. The body of 70-year-old Bobby Manning, Sr. was found Friday morning outside of Maysville in Onslow County.

Warrants says Huff was arrested Thursday on the financial card fraud charge and he's accused of withdrawing money on October 20th from the victim's account.

Huff's next court date is December 23rd.

An autopsy is scheduled today to determine how Manning was killed.

We're watching for two big developments in a major murder investigation in Onslow county.

Fifty-two-year-old John Huff of Beaufort is scheduled to make his first court appearance this morning.

The Carteret county man is under arrest for the murder of a Craven county man, after his body was found in a shallow grave in Onslow county Friday.

Seventy-year-old Bobby Manning Sr. of Vanceboro was reported missing November 19th. An autopsy is also scheduled today to figure out how Manning died.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says the body was found in a shallow grave this morning in a wooded area off White Oak River Road outside of Maysville.

Craven County Captain Joe Heckman tells WITN News they believe the body is that of Bobby Manning, Sr. The 70-year-old Vanceboro man was reported missing November 19th.

Heckman says the investigation led them to believe Manning may have been killed, and likely taken to Onslow County. Cadaver dogs from Wayne County were brought in this morning and the body was found thirty minutes later.

Yesterday a suspect was nabbed on a charge of attempted fraudulent use of a credit card. John Huff of Beaufort is now being held in the Craven County jail on an open count of murder.

The 52-year-old man is expected to face a judge Monday on the murder charge.

He is no stranger to the legal system. Huff has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1982 with more than 30 convictions. The latest was a drug possession charge which he got out of prison in 2007.

The body will be sent to the Pitt County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy on Monday.
