The Sheraton Atlantic Beach remains closed for repairs from hurricane Irene, but part of the property is now available for use.
The town of Atlantic Beach has reached an agreement with the Sheraton to open its parking lots for public beach access. This agreement will provide over 250 parking spaces in the lots on the east side of the hotel. The lots will open Friday. After an initial period of free parking, the town will include the lots in its paid parking program.
There is no timeline for the reopening of the hotel, but the agreement provides for the use of the lots for public parking through October 15.
