A man accused in Carteret County's first murder case of 2014 went before a judge Monday morning.
Morehead City police said they have arrested Stephen Hutson for the murder of Wilbur Blackford. Authorities say Hutson and the victim were roommates.
On February 1st police found the body of Blackford in his home in Glenn Grove Mobile Home Park. The 60-year-old man died from blunt force trauma that was not consistent with a fall, according to police.
Authorities say Hutson made the 911 call when Blackford's body was discovered. "I just woke up and walked out and my buddy's laying on the floor," said the 911 caller. "I thought he was drunk or something when I found him, when I walked in here and he was dead."
The 26-year-old Hutson is being held without bond.
During his first appearance, Hutson was given a public defender and his next court date is March 14th.
