The Carteret County Animal Shelter is still working to comply with the state.
The shelter still needs more work to pass a state inspection.
Shelter officials say they need to replace the feral cages, metals doors and finish painting.
Though the shelter has failed twice this year, the state inspector is working with them because of all the changes they've done so far, and because there is no serious threat to the animals or the workers. Officials at the shelter are hoping to passing the inspection next time around.
The shelter anticipates passing inspection by the end of June.
