Four Vehicle Crash Backs Up Traffic On Highway 24

A four vehicle accident is slowing down traffic on Highway 24, west of Morehead City.

The wreck happened at the Hibbs Road intersection and one vehicle overturned. Eastbound traffic on Highway 24 has been slowed down because of the crash.

Troopers say an SUV was heading east on Hibbs Road and the driver switched lanes, trying to make the stoplight. She rear-ended one vehicle at 60 miles per hour, according to the Highway Patrol. That vehicle flipped with two people inside. Two other vehicles were side-swiped in the accident.

Three people were transported to Carteret General, but troopers say their injuries are not critical.

Troopers say charges are pending against Jacqueline Lewis of Newport.
