They're the top predator in the ocean and this week they are being featured at one local aquarium.
It is shark week at North Carolina's Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.
Visitors are learning a lot about different sharks, including the types of sharks we can find here in North Carolina. They even learned about how long some are and the types of things that they eat. And they also featured some myths about sharks.
Windy Ken is an education curator at the aquarium and says, "Well, Hollywood and books have done a really good job of making the shark out to be this really mean creature when actually sharks would prefer not to interact with people. They're probably more afraid of us than we are of them."
The hope is that the more people learn about sharks, the safer they will be when they visit the coast.
The last day to take part in shark week events is July, 31st.
