Coast Guard Rescue Witness

A witness who saw the dramatic rescue of eight boaters off the coast Friday tells WITN he's just glad everyone made it out o.k.

Captain John Arliss heard the may day call that came across the coast guard station and he jumped into action.

Arliss took one of the larger boats from Sea Tow and went out to where the boaters were waiting for help. By the time Arliss made it there, the last person was getting into the coast guard's boat.

Arliss says he tried to save the boat, but he said it went down in a matter of minutes.

After hearing this story I went out and bought a EPIRB. I have been risking this for years-thinking I would have time to call out my GPS co-ordinates if I went down. But 8 minutes. That is fast.
