Cape Lookout Lighthouse Opening!

A lighthouse that has greeted visitors to the coast for more than 150 years is reopening to the public.

The Cape Lookout Lighthouse will soon climb to the top of some tourist's lists.

The lighthouse, although operational, has been closed for public tours since 2008 due to structural and safety concerns.

Senator Kay Hagan was on hand to climb to the top Wednesday and played a major role in getting a half million dollars for its critical rehabilitation.

Public tours will resume July 15th. Tickets for adults are just 8 dollars and 4 dollars for children.

That's good to know. Next on the list should be Bodie Island. I've been on the Hatteras and Currituck lighthouses back in my younger days. John, the St. Simons and Key West lighthouses were great to climb. I've been on that one myself.

Good news despite the governors supposed involvement.

This is great news! I've climbed the other two lighthouses that are open to the public - Hatteras and Currituck - and, I can't wait to add Lookout to the list, which also includes Tybee, St. Simon's, St. Augustine, and Key West.
