While many are now heading out of Eastern Carolina, business owners at the beach say it was a successful holiday weekend.
Customers packed retail shops like Hi-Lites to get the latest beach styles.
Officials there say they saw an uptick in sales from this time last year.
Officials at the Seahawk Motor Lodge and Villas say they were full all three nights this weekend. This along with thousands who scoured the beach Monday for a spot to soak up the sun.
Officials say the heavy traffic this weekend was hopefully a good indicator of what the remainder of the summer will look like.
