Computer Models Show Gulf Oil Reaching Cape Hatteras

Computer models show oil leaking from a damaged well in the Gulf of Mexico could wind up on the East Coast and even get carried on currents across the Atlantic Ocean toward Europe.

The National Center for Atmospheric Research models showed Thursday that oil could enter the Gulf's loop current, go around the tip of Florida and as far north as Cape Hatteras, N.C. According to researchers, oil could threaten East Coast beaches by early July, but they cautioned the models were not a forecast.

The oil could then head by Bermuda on its way to Europe.

Martin Visbeck, a research team member with the University of Kiel in Germany, says it is unlikely any oil reaching Europe would be thick enough to be harmful.

This is not a good sign. What would be destroyed is the commercial fishing industry, indirectly affecting several other aspects of the Outer Banks economy. Way to destroy Louisiana's coast BP. Way to go you crooks.

There goes OSOC again talking about if you love heating your home or driving your car. Folks, do me a favor and ask OSOC where the majority of our oil comes from?

Implode the well and be done with it! How much economical and ecological damage has to occur for them to finally make the call!? Money and greed has let this go on for so long!

If Obama would have sent USCG skimmer ships!? LOL. That is the funniest one yet! Maybe he should have just taken out his hanky while he was down there and cleaned it up with that! He'd have made just as much of a dent. Millions of gallons of oil! Understand?

Maybe this will finally make the federal and state governments realize we would be better off to tap the wind energy off the NC coast. Wind is clean, renewable, and free. If wind turbins farms were placed off our coast, our coast alone would drastically reduce our country's dependence on oil for energy. Not to mention the jobs it would provide to eastern NC! We need to speak out and push our government to make a real change for the better for once!!!

I'm pretty sure burning the oil is the last thing we want to do, considering all the wildlife smattered with oil. Basically you people want to see miles of burning shoreline, flaming dolphins trying to swim away, and an endless black plume of smoke billowing into the sky further polluting our Earth. Yeah, that sounds great to me. Not! Did you guys forget that it's STILL gushing oil? You can't just burn it off, it's still flowing. Ohhh I get it, this is opposites day, so we're recommending the opposite of what we want to happen! Uhh, how about we NUKE the oil spill! That'll teach it a lesson! Or maybe that spill is just acting out for attention like a child, so we should just ignore it and look the other way and it will stop itself, right? Nooo, no, I got it this time. Let's build a 75 foot long BAND-AID and stick that bad boy over the leak. Band-aids always work for my lil' boo boo's, I bet they'll fix the ocean floor too! What a joke...

I love the outer banks, my wife is going to open a medical practice down there within the next six months. The spill would not be a problem if it involved a bird (piping plover) that was not native to the area, and seen as a complete nuissance, the government would damn well take care of it, but no need to worry about the oil. weird world isnt it.
