Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Sunday Shooting

A Carteret County man is accused of trying to kill a man this past weekend, and firing his gun at several other people.

Willard Sanders of Beaufort is charged with attempted murder, several counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and going armed to the terror of the public.

Deputies say they responded to a "shots fired" call at a county park at the end of Marshallberg Road late Sunday afternoon. Their investigation shows that Sanders fired numerous shots at the ground in front of the victims and then pointed a gun at the head oft one man, telling him he was going to kill him. Deputies say the fired shot missed the man's head.

The 49-year-old Sanders was arrested several hours later. Sanders is a cousin of Sheriff Asa Buck. Buck said he was one of those who arrested Sanders and says the case was handled just like any other investigation.

Sanders is in jail on a $250,000 bond.

Jeffrey is still in jail since it appears no one is coughing up the 20 grand or so for bail money. You can check a jail inmate's status using vinelink, here's the link.... You can see he's still sitting there enjoying his daily ration of bologna and cheese sandwiches. I think all this time will count toward his sentence if convicted of attempted murder. Depending on the judge, he'll probably only serve up to 5 years if convicted. So all the time sitting there since June 2010 should cut back on prison time.

what? did everyone give up their front row seats and forget? funny, i do know that the 'vic' along with his brother we not innocent parties. paying someone to hurt someone and for that someone to accept and carry it out is against the law on both ends. so much for the faircloths and their halos, and the man who paid them. i know much more but i wont tell the lip service of downeast. they spin it, twist it, and disfigure truth as it hits their ears.

Any updates? Wasn't his court date this past week? Where are the so-called reporters following up on these news reports?

I'm not related to anyone with this sort of lifestyle. I'm related to a perfectly average person who was jumped by Willard, and Willard walked with no charges laid on him. I want to see justice this time.

Alex, what in the world ever decided to get this family member of yours into the lifestyle he got into? I hate it for you man. It's ashame that the sherriff had to decide on doing such a thing to his own cousin to keep chaos from coming out, but he did his job, and I applaud him for that. For that Buck is a true sheriff, keeping the place safe.

AND BTW, he has been handling guns all of his life, and if he wanted to, he would've done it. he missed for a reason.
