The Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce will host the “Capt. MAC Beach Run” on Saturday, May 8, on the beach at the Sheraton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront Hotel, 2717 Fort Macon Road, Atlantic Beach.
“This is the first Beach Run event for the MAC, and we plan to make it one of our annual fundraisers,” said Bob Pyer, who is serving as Race Director.
“The MAC is partnering with the Sheraton and Molly’s Beachside Bar & Grill to help make this a family event with other activities on the beach,” he said. “There will be volleyball, Frisbees and fun at the beach and the hotel pool, and Molly’s will be offering drink and lunch “specials” for the race day.
“Also assisting with the event is the Carteret County Parks & Recreation Department,” Pyer said, “and their staff has a great deal of experience conducting beach runs. Also, Beasley Broadcasting Radio Station V103.3 will be on site to provide music to pump up the runners and add to the fun,” he noted.
There will be a 5K run along the beach at low tide, starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and a 1 Mile Fun Run starting at 10:30 a.m. There will be awards given for the first three places of each age group ( 9 yrs to 70+) and for male & female winners. Additionally, there will be a “Military Challenge” in the 5K run, with a first place winner for male & female who are active duty or reserve military personnel.
Entry fees are $20 for individual runners in the 5K race, $40 for families (2-4 members), and $3 for the 1 Mile Fun Run. Children 8 or under are free. T-shirts will be guaranteed for runners who register no later than April 30, and extra T-shirts can be ordered for $10 each until that date. Pre-registration will be Friday, May 7, at the Sheraton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront Hotel from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Race day registration will start at 8 a.m. on the pier at the Sheraton on Saturday, May 8.
