Getting Ready For The Beach Season

The summer travel season is fast approaching-- but the beach crowds were already in full swing Friday.

Beachgoers shuffled onto Atlantic Beach in Carteret County as temperatures hit the mid 70s along the Crystal Coast.

While some we spoke with believe it will be a mediocre year for vacationers and that we are still in a recession, others say we're on the upswing.

Some tourism officials say added attractions like the Morehead City Marlins baseball team will provide beachgoers with a good family activity after a day in the sun.

Tourist would not be so bad if they had respect and common sense! The attitudes and stupidity is why most do not care for them. They make left turns from the far right lane on a 5 lane road. Making others slam on brakes causing wrecks. Then do 35mph in a 50 mph zone. Then do 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. Do not get me started on how rude they are. This is 97% of tourist. Thank God I do not have to interact with them in my job.

Cause and Effect: No tourist = less revenue = higher taxes. Currently the county is one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, as far as taxes. You don't want the tourist but then you complain if companies go out of business (due to lack of revenue) and or your taxes rise. Furthermore all the new stores (Best Buy) and restaurants (Olive Garden) would not be coming if the area didn't have high traffic. Can't have it both ways unfortunately!

I dread summers. Dingbaters (tourist) are so annoying. All I do til the season is over is wait in long lines to grocery shop, get home from work and at restaurants. Do not tell me to move. Im a local of 5 generations. Vacation somewhere else for a change. I hear Myrtle Beach HAS EVERYTHING!!!

When we lived in Montana, there were t-shirts with the following; If it is tourists season, does that mean we can shoot them? This was a scene of bears holding a recently fired rifle. Now, having written this, the tourist season is what fed some the people wearing the t-shirts. Talking about biting the hand that feeds you!!!!!!! Then, when we lived in the great friendly state of Texas (yeah, right!), the native Texans had bumper stickers on their vehicles that read: Welcome to Texas, now go home!!!! If I ever go back to Texas, it would be to soon. So, as other bumper stickers claim, "Celebrate Diversity".

I know we need the money that summer vacationers bring in but arent all the yankees moving here enough torture? I think the locals should have their own check out lanes and driving lanes. MAKE THEM WAIT.
