Talking About Walking

A popular town for tourists on our coast wants to hear from its year-round residents today about a plan for pedestrians.

Morehead City will be holding a workshop Monday from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. Officials say they want to educate and inform people, develop and prioritize recommendations, along with proposing new programs, projects and procedures for a pedestrian plan for Morehead City.

Morehead City has posted information at moreheadcity.pbworks.com. There is also a Morehead City Pedestrian Plan page on Facebook.

Wonderful idea and model for other communities. Too bad many of our current politicians don't have what it takes to ensure all new and resurfaced roadways include a walk & bike path separate from the roadway and along at least one side for safe non-motorized travel. There is plenty of room along our right of ways. Morehead knows this can be a valuable tourist and business draw - hope others will wake up.

I sure hope that they are forward thinking enough to integrate both walking and biking/bike lanes into their planning discussions.
