Governor Beverly Perdue wants Washington to get disaster designations for farmers in 13 North Carolina counties. In particular, soybean, cotton and wheat crops have been affected.
The governor says recent excessive rain and flooding has hampered farmers and their crops. “We must protect our farmers, their livelihoods and the jobs they create and sustain throughout tough times,” said Gov. Perdue. “Our farmers are the backbone of rural economies all over North Carolina.”
Included in the request are Camden, Carteret, Craven, Currituck, Greene, Onslow, Pasquotank and Washington counties.
