Two more horses have died in Carteret County from Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
This now brings to three EEE deaths in the county since October, and all of the animals have been in the Newport area.
The state averages about 10 horse cases and one human case each year from EEE. Experts says about 50% of human EEE cases are fatal, with young children and the elderly most at risk.
